Esports: watch out!


Since I continue to receive many inquiries despite my partial withdrawal from e-sports, I rarely accept inquiries that interest me personally and, above all, also take into account social aspects.


In addition, I offer free short tutorials on eSports as the market is full of dangers including the following risks:

I expressly recommend anyone who wants to get involved in the e-sports market to deal with this situation and seek appropriate advice from a neutral (scientific) body. Even if e-sport offers many positive aspects, the economic system is unfortunately riddled with actors and actions in many places that would have no chance in less "bloated" sectors at a medium/high level.

E-sports are on the rise. It is digital, dynamic and future-oriented. The growth of electronic sports is exponential worldwide. In Germany, too, it offers great opportunities in various areas of the economy and society.

I am available for lectures on the topic. The number of participants and the thematic field around e-sports can be designed flexibly and after consultation.

Media & Events

Working with different media (print, online, TV, radio) is routine for me. My areas of responsibility range from activities as a press spokesman to writing press releases and interviews. I attend and accompany events, also in the post-processing, for example by means of guest contributions on scene sites.

Books

I write books on different areas of e-sports or electronic sports in general, but also on various other topics. By far my most important work in e-sports is "Screen Athletes", which I published in 2018. This is seen by the Institute for Ludology, among others, as the standard work on the subject. In addition, I have published six other e-sports books at Flying Kiwi Media and two e-sports books at tredition as an author, an e-sports guide as a co-author at Heel Verlag and the first volumes of Esportpedia as a co-author, as well like two number books on e-sports as a co-author. I was also the writing and academic director and co-founder of Esportpedia until November 2021, and in this position I was responsible for the first four books of the encyclopedia, but have retired due to lack of time. Esportpedia is the world's first analogue e-sports encyclopedia, published by Meyer & Meyer Verlag.

I offer editorial and writing work in the fields of HR, gamification and e-sports, but also in general. This includes the creation of texts, articles and news for endemic and non-endemic newspapers, magazines, publishers, portals and websites. Speakers / Advice

I have already been invited to various events as a speaker and have given lectures on e-sports there, both analogue and digital. In addition, I advise companies, clubs, associations and other organizations on e-sports, in the past including PENTA, TSV 1860 Munich, eSport Rhein-Neckar and various universities. Partial order stop


Due to a (partial) reorientation and for reasons of time, I have not accepted any new e-sports orders since March 2022. I would like to thank all partners/customers for the great time!


However, orders for non-academic ghostwriting can be placed again. I had worked in this area until early/mid-2019 and would now like to do so again. Please refer to this page.


Update July 27th, 2022: In exceptional cases, I will accept selected requests if I enjoy doing them and find them useful - and if they are also manageable in terms of time.


Order Stop FAQ

Questions and answers about (partial) inactivity

  • Why is there an order stop?

    In 2022, I decided to be more active again as a ghostwriter (non-academic projects, including HR) and also more in my actual main job (HR, human resources, including scientific project work). This would not be possible if I continued to accept new orders, since even the continuous processing of existing partnerships and projects takes up enough time. Additional information can be found in this guest contribution.

  • What happens to continuous orders?

    Ongoing, continuous and/or permanent orders will be processed as usual. This includes in particular teaching activities, the updating of selected publications, editing, expert inquiries and advice.

  • What happens to orders that have already been placed?

    Of course, I will process orders that have already been placed as agreed. If I am not able to do this due to new obligations outside of e-sports, I would organize a replacement within my e-sports network if the customer/partner agrees - and if necessary I would work to provide support. Possibly I would also pass on the preparatory work that I have already done for all assignments (all assignments have already started and are in progress). This applies in particular to orders for textbooks (Euro-FH, IU). Since I will not be updating this website for the time being, the relevant references (applies only to Euro-FH and IU) are to be understood as a forecast or "was given and would have happened if there had not been any overlapping in time in the professional replanning". .

  • Are no new orders accepted at all?

    No new orders will be accepted anymore. For example, I turned down an order for three short textbooks (approx. EUR 22,000) or an offer to teach at an international trainer training course, which I was offered shortly after the order was stopped.

  • What will happen in the future?

    There are currently no plans to accept new orders in the future. Passive income and ongoing projects remain unaffected.

  • Which inquiries can still be made?

    You are welcome to continue to contact me. Since I no longer accept new orders, I can at least offer to spread and network corresponding inquiries in my e-sports network. For example, I placed textbook orders with JanaANG and Skillshot Consulting. I don't know anyone who maps everything holistically, but I can always put you in touch with specialists in certain sub-areas.

  • Will there be a complete withdrawal from e-sports?

    No, I will not completely retire from e-sports. I will continue to be active in e-sports, especially in research, science, writing, as a speaker and as a volunteer.

  • What happens to the published books?

    All of my publications remain available as usual and can either be purchased (bookshops, online) or used free of charge (university libraries).

  • Help is needed, what to do?

    I am happy to continue to be available for assistance - as far as time permits.

  • What about offers for professorships and teaching positions?

    Appointments to a professorship have been suggested and/or offered to me in the past. There are also requests for teaching positions from time to time. I kindly ask you to refrain from any inquiries until further notice, as I cannot afford this in time.
